Founded in 1936, MTE is the largest electric cooperative in the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) region and the second largest in the United States, serving more than 750,000 Tennesseans via 325,000+ accounts covering nearly 2,200 square miles in 11 Middle Tennessee counties, primarily Rutherford, Cannon, Williamson and Wilson. Municipalities served include Murfreesboro, Franklin, Brentwood, Smyrna, La Vergne, Lebanon and Mt. Juliet. MTE employs 520 people in seven local offices and its Murfreesboro corporate headquarters.
MTE’s subsidiary, United Communications, is a nationally recognized broadband company with a fiber network spanning more than 1,700 route miles providing high-speed internet and other services to portions of Williamson, Wilson, Rutherford, Marshall, Bedford, Franklin and Davidson counties.

MTE employs hundreds of people, but not all of us work on the actual electric grid. Our line crews, engineers and operation teams help ensure our system is built, maintained and repaired to provide the highest quality of electric service. However, Team MTE also has a large support staff to help engage and communicate with our members and employees. From finance to member services and information technology to human resources, our employees are trained professionals with a wide range of skills and education. We need a diverse group of people to keep MTE running, so don’t worry if building poles and wires isn't your career path.

Team MTE receives regular communications from their supervisors and leadership to keep them engaged and involved with events and initiatives happening around the cooperative. MTE’s CEO publishes a weekly letter through our intranet and holds a monthly virtual Town Hall to answer questions from the team. Our intranet is called the Wire, and it contains weekly and daily updates to help our teammates stay informed on cooperative news and changes. Team MTE can also read Short Circuits — a monthly internal newsletter with interviews and articles about our industry, organization and team members.
Our members, businesses, and communities need power 24/7. To achieve this, Team MTE embraces an “Always On” mentality. From line crews to member support specialists and engineers to communicators, our employees work various schedules to keep the system up and running. We believe in having personal time for things like vacations, family and rest, but we are always prepared to serve our members and fellow employees when the unexpected happens. These times are typically brief and sporadic, but Team MTE is committed to helping our members when the power goes out — even if that happens outside of business hours.
